Applesauce Gingerbread recipe
Applesauce cuts back on added sugars while supplying natural sweetness and spice to these chewy holiday cookies.
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups flour
¼ cup sugar
1 ½ teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon cloves
¼ teaspoon salt
2/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/3 cup molasses
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 egg, lightly beaten
Directions:
1) Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish.
2) Combine flour, sugar, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a large bowl. In a medium bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients. Pour into dry ingredients; stir until well mixed.
3) Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish. Bake 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
